2021 Alabama Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame Inductee; WOOF FM News Director Deborah Pearson is a native of Ashford, Alabama and is a veteran journalist who has spent more than two decades telling the stories of the people of the Wiregrass. Named "Best News Anchor" and "Best Reporter " in Alabama by the Alabama Associated Press and Best Reporter in 2019. She continues to win accolades and awards including 2022 Best Newscast.
Deborah Pearson is an accomplished and award-winning journalist, known for her extensive experience as an afternoon reporter and anchor. Recently promoted to the position of News Director at WOOF-FM News, she brings a wealth of knowledge and dedication to her new role.
Deborah's passion for journalism was nurtured during her time as a student at Alabama State University, where she received comprehensive training as a broadcast journalist. In 1985, she had the opportunity to intern at WOOF-FM, beginning her longstanding connection with the station.
Having joined WOOF in 1992, Deborah's exceptional work as a news reporter has earned her numerous accolades throughout her career. Her commitment to delivering high-quality news reporting has been recognized with multiple awards from esteemed organizations such as the Alabama Broadcasters Association and the Alabama Associated Press Broadcasting Association. These accolades include four ABBY awards and several honors from the Alabama Associated Press Broadcasting Association.
Deborah's dedication to the journalism community extends beyond her reporting responsibilities. In 1999, she served as the President of the Alabama Associated Press Broadcasters Association, further contributing to the advancement of journalism in the state. Her outstanding contributions were acknowledged in 2021 when she was inducted into the Alabama Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame, alongside previous WOOF owner Leigh Simpson.
Alongside her professional accomplishments, Deborah remains actively involved in her local community. She serves on the Board of Directors for the House of Ruth, the Tri-State Expo Advisory Board, and the Life South Blood Center Board. She also plays an active role in her church, Dothan Community Church, where she serves as the Women's Ministry Facilitator, sings in the choir, and contributes to the Audio-visual team.
In her new position as News Director, Deborah is excited to lead the news team at WOOF-FM and continue delivering the same standard of excellence that she has upheld throughout her 30-year tenure. She will also be a valuable addition to the WOOF-FM Morning Show with Derrick and Julie, bringing her expertise and passion to the program.
Listeners can expect informative and engaging live newscasts from Deborah on weekdays, starting at 6:50 am and 7:50 am, with headline updates at 6:20 am, 7:20 am, and 8:20 am. Additionally, she will provide newscasts at 11:50 am, 3:50 pm, and 4:50 pm. She has also joined the podcasting world and has a rising podcast entitled "Sincere Voices of Victims" that can be heard on Spotify, Apple and Google Podcast formats.
